I thought it was all just my vagina. Why do I need a vulva too?
It is a good time to clear up some vagina confusion. Or should we call it some vulva confusion? We tend to generalize our vagina, calling the beautiful lady in entirety – a vagina. When in fact this is slightly incorrect. When you stand naked in front of a mirror, which I hope everyone does, what you see is actually your vulva. Depending on the style and cut of your pubic hair of course.
Vulva, Vulva, vulva. The outer genitals, including the mons pubis (which is called specifically in us ladies, the mons Venus or mons veneris which means mound of venus), labia majora, labia minora, clitoral hood, clitoris, the opening to the vagina, and the opening to the urethra. Hey there vulva, looking good. The labia majora and minora are the two sets of lips that protect the vagina from the outer world, keep her moist and warm. They are also jam packed with nerve endings that provide sensation and lubrication during sex. The clitoral hood is a fold of skin that covers and protects the clitoris. It is like the foreskin of a penis, and is also important for pleasure. Besides helping to keep our vaginas healthy, vulvas also keep our vaginas happy and give all the ladies multiple ways to feel pleasure.
The vagina, is the passage between the uterus and the outer genitals (VULVA!!!) the vagina is where penetration occurs during sex, where menstrual blood flows, starting at the uterus, and where a baby would travel during birth. The vagina is considered potential space, the sides of the vagina collapse together, but has the ability to expand and contract like a balloon. Without a mirror you aren't really able to see much of your vagina. But I do suggest grabbing a mirror and sitting over it and doing a little exploring into your vulva and looking to see where your vagina is hanging out. Don't forget to admire and appreciate the beauty and individuality of your vulva. No two are made the same, those she parts are uniquely yours and yours alone to give you pleasure.
Stand in front of a mirror naked and say hello vulva, give her a wave, dance a sweet dance, and appreciate. And it is probably time to create some nicknames for our vulvas, since our vajayjays have been taking all the good ones. Not sure that vulvayvay is very catchy…
